East View Hotel, my home in Bacolod

Posted by on Mar 9, 2012 in Philippines, Travels | 4 comments

I was supposed to stay at my friend’s house in Bacolod but a few days before my trip, I figured that they’ll be crowded and I don’t want to be a bother to them. So at the least minute, I googled for a boutique hotel in Bacolod and found East View Hotel. They claim they’re a boutique hotel although I think they’re an ordinary hotel since it’s not very posh. I still like the room I got though. For P1,400 a night with free breakfast (which I never used), it ain’t bad at all.

my queen-size bed

there's a small table which I used for my laptop. the closet has a safe

cable tv, mini fridge, table

i wasn't keen on the bathroom which smelled like pee

The hotel only provides towels, towelettes, soaps, and a horrid product which is a 3-in-1 shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I had to buy toothpaste and shampoo. Good thing I brought a toothbrush with me.

Still, the bed was very cozy and I slept like a baby during my four nights in Bacolod. It’s also good that the hotel is close to my friend’s house so it’s convenient for them when picking me up.

Most likely I’ll stay here again but I’ll arm myself with all the toiletries I will need on my next Bacolod trip.

A Review of the PLDT TelPad S7 Slim

Huawei Ideos S7 Slim Tablet

The Huawei Ideos S7 Slim Tablet is the latest tablet PLDT is offering to those who want to subscribe to their TelPad services. I was lent a unit for review and was able to try it for a month. The following are my thoughts on this TelPad.

The S7 Slim Tablet is a gadget for those who want to make the most out of their land-line subscription. It is a 6-in-1 device: a telephone, a tablet computer, a digital camera, an Ebook reader, a gaming device and a media center in one console. It is a very convenient device but those who are not familiar with tablets or Android phones/tablets might have a hard time with it in the beginning. Once the learning curve has been hurdled, the S7 is a nifty console to own.

As a telephone, the S7 may be used as a speakerphone and caller ID system. The speakerphone can be a bit tricky because you will need to dial using the cradle first before you can activate the speaker system with the speaker button. For the caller ID to work, you will need to create a Google account first then enter your contacts in the Address Book. For Android phone owners and those who use Google’s Address Book, they only need to link their account to the TelPad and sync their contacts using the internet.

As a tablet computer, the TelPad is useful for light internet users who mostly just access social media (Twitter and Facebook), surf, and email. The built-in flash memory is only 512 MB which means it’s only for light multitasking and users can’t install much apps. I’m basing this on my experience with 512 Android phones. The TelPad is preloaded with the native Twitter, Facebook, and Gmail applications and more may be downloaded from the Android Market. I have a couple of suggested applications to make the tablet experience easier. Users can download the following for free using the Android Market application.

Speed Dating with the Philippine Volcanoes

Posted by on Feb 23, 2012 in Features, Lifestyle | 0 comments

meet some of the ladies

Last February 15, 2012, Globe Telecom had a Post-Valentine treat for media people and bloggers at Izakaya in Greenbelt. Ladies got to speed date with some Philippine Volcanoes players that night. Globe required us to take a photo with each member and ask them questions, all within 2 minutes. It was dizzying for me because of the time constraint. Two minutes isn’t enough to get to know each member and take a decent photo with them. Still, it was a fun night even though there were too many women. My estimate is the ratio per player is 4 girls is to 1. Too much competition hehehe.
