2014 has been great to me! It was a year that brought me a whole new set of friends who feel like my tribe, a trip to Hong Kong and Singapore, trivia nights, cosplay experiences, and so much more.
I had an addition to my BJD collection early last year with my purchase of Ling Ling. I love her and I think she’s so pretty. I spent a good deal of money and clothes and accessories for her but I’ve neglected my dolls again with my pursuits of other pleasures.
Last year brought me back to 2 Asian countries I love: Hong Kong and Singapore. Hong Kong was where I experienced the most turbulent and frightening flight I’ve ever experienced. I went to Singapore on my own to watch the reunion concert of Slowdive.
Slowdive’s is one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended so the trip was worth it.
I also had an accident in Singapore when I tripped so hard while looking for the MTR station. My knee is still injured up to now but I’m too scared to go to a doctor to have it checked.
My sister started organizing dinner dates with our cousins last year too. We try to do it once a month. Because of these cousin dinners, we were able to organize a cousins-only Hong Trip for January 2015. That should be a blast! Actually I’m kind of scared of how cold it could get there this time of the year.
I got to be a hipster for awhile when I attended this music festival. It was kind of fun because the venue was well-designed. I just couldn’t stand the crowd. I really am getting old.
I started going to some quiz nights, particularly Trivia Tuesdays at Relik, and the once-a-month quizzes at Amici and Cali Burger. Even though I only get to answer the questions occasionally, my groups Hat Madders and Cumberbenders still accepted me and made me feel so welcome and that I belong. Now I have a lot of new friends because of the trivia nights and for that I’m really really thankful. Here is a photo of my big geek family.
I got into cosplaying through my trivia night friends. Last year, I was Gloomy Bear, a pirate, and Missy! I’ve always loved being in costume but it was only last year that I went to a convention wearing a costume. I guess you can call it my cosplaying debut. I hope I’ll be able to play more characters this year.
Best Halloween Ever
Just look at the size of our group (and some weren’t able to come). It was my first Halloween with ALL my friends in costume and it was a blast. We spent most of our time at the Fort and let me tell you, walking in high-heeled boots is a killer. Damn that “tiis ganda”. I’ll never wear heels during Halloween ever again.
Birthday bowling in costume
I celebrated my birthday with a costume bowling party. Almost everyone came in costume which is a joy to see. Almost everyone hasn’t bowled for ages so we left with aching bodies. I hope everybody had fun though.
I got to experience my first and probably last Rigodon de Honor when our family business celebrated its 18th anniversary/Christmas party with a debut theme. If I remember correctly, I was only invited twice to debut parties when I was younger (yes, I was very unpopular). I almost wasn’t able to come to our party because I was sick with fever and colds but I wanted to see our staff in their best attire so I still came. It was our fanciest Christmas party and they surprised me with a Rigodon. As you can see in the photo, I had no idea what I was doing.
The year ended with a shocker for me when I learned that my stepdad is my real dad, my half-sister is my real sister, and I met my half sisters (less one). I won’t talk about it much but I’m still stunned over this.
Well that’s how my year went. 2014 was very good to me what with my new adventures and friends. I’m so thankful that I had a great year. I hope this year will be just as good, if not better.
